The Sun Conure is a small parrot known for some of the most vivid plumage in the parrot family — a blend of bright yellow, orange, and hints of green and blue across the wings and tail. Young birds start out with more green in their feathers, gradually brightening into their full adult coloring.
In the wild, Sun Conures feed on fruit, seeds, blossoms, and flowers found in dry forest and savanna woodland. They often forage in small flocks, moving between fruiting trees and calling frequently as they go.
Sun Conures are lively, social birds that stay in close-knit flocks and communicate constantly through sharp, chattering calls. Pairs bond closely and will often perch side by side, and the flock's near-constant vocal contact helps its members stay together while foraging.
